Ok…. I’ve actually read all these books (i was getting super bored reading 1Q84 and needed something mindless to break it up)… The first book is page turning, not particularly well written, but a fun, easy book to resd… The 2nd one is pretty much a carbon copy of the first (with a twist!) and the third one was terrible, and sucked all of the fun out of the original concept (also, the ending depressed the hell out of me)
Maybe i should call my band ‘Memory Cloud’ or something
Such a great band, with such a boring and typical sounding band name.
definitely maybe
awesome
you’re the worst
It’s post modern break ups
I just lost the game

It’s weird that neither pitchfork or stereogum picked up on this, they’ve both been calling it a completely new song
this isn’t a “new” new song… it’s just a band version of that acoustic song that we heard a couple months back… sounds good though.
I do understand that he can’t make the same album over an over again (or at least, shouldn’t), and don’t blame him for stretching his sound, and adding new elements… I just felt like he didn’t quite pull it off at times on Heartland, while maintaining what is already unique in his sound
In other words, noone else writes songs like the ones he wrote on ‘He Poos Clouds’ and ‘Has a good home’.. and now, not even he does… and i wish someone would.
That’s a nice cover! although I’ve never heard the original, so I’m not weighed down by any association with it.
Don’t get me wrong man… I think heartland was pretty good.. I love certain songs on the albu,. but others leave me a little cold… sometimes it feels to me that the electronics overwhelm the songs too much.
I like it when he uses his violin to drive the songs, since this gives him a unique sense of time… almost classical in the way it moves.. and I felt like heartland, at times, lost what was unique about his songs, and made them a little too bland
‘Red Sun no.5′ for example, sounds more like Owen Pallett trying to write a Grizzly Bear/Department of Eagles song, while sacrificing what’s unique about him.
‘But on the other hand, Oh Heartland Up Yours!’ and ‘Lewis Takes Action’ are two of his best songs.
Owen Pallett’s cover is so good, sounds more like ‘He Poos Clouds’ than ‘Heartland’, which I was disappointed with after waiting so long for it… love how he buries his vocals in the mix, almost like water colour vocals… after ‘peach, plum, pear’, this dude really knows how to do a good cover!
Having said that, I guess it’s difficult to know what to say in these types of situations
I’ve never understood why people say that.
she’s not “resting” she’s dead… it’s not like the “rest” is going to do her any good.
It’s sad that she’s gone, she had a great voice
This is great by the way… as good as ever
for those not living in the right region… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_PzXIeKeQU
yeah… lets all read into the publicity picture… that will lead to accurate assessments of a person’s character
agreed… in particular on the verse
Dinosaur Jr.
I agree. you can also tell that he cares alot about pushing himself to keep growing and discovering new sounds, and grow as a musician and arranger/songwriter…
In this way, the Age of Ads album reminds me of Michigan, since it’s sprawling and he seems to be having alot of fun exploring the new musical landscape that he has thrown himself into (in the case of michigan it was the more dense droney production after he had perfected his own style of minimalistic folk songs on Seven Swans), while also not losing the songs in the mix… i’d be pretty happy if his next album is the electronic equivalent of ‘Illinois’
that bridge section is gun.. the clip is nice too
Such a brilliant song… don’t know why the dude keeps saying that he’s not interested in song craft anymore, only crafting sound… this song is brilliantly crafted
This is awesome!

Really? I wonder how big of a role the length and density of 1q84 played in the success of the Hunger Games
